The Presentitis Epidemic

The Presentitis Epidemic

Studies have shown a dramatic increase in the number of presentitis cases over the past five decades with numbers reaching what some consider epidemic levels. There may be as many as 26,000,000 PowerPoint users infected with presentitis in the United States alone.

Much of this research has indicated that these increases are due to the rapid expansion seen in the pool of potential victims. This is clearly related to advances in technology that have democratized the presentation production process. What was once the realm of a few highly-trained experts can now involve workers of every skill level – some whom lack good organizational practices and can create conditions where presentitis runs rampant.

This relationship between advances in presentation-related technology and presentitis can been seen in this chart from a recent study conducted by Dr. Eugene Potner, PhD, MD, FPPP, FCMP  (Potner, E et al. Technology and Presentitis Transmission. J Pres Stud, 2006, 25(3), 101-110.).
